Workshop Description

Late May is the perfect time to photograph wild flowers, especially in Door County, Wisconsin. The weather is mild, and it is a month before the tourists arrive. Door County in May is not just for wildflowers and beautiful cherry blossoms. The cool nights create foggy harbors in quaint little towns with names like Egg Harbor and Ephraim on Lake Michigan for beautiful early morning shots. The many lighthouses (10 in the Door County area), sunsets, sunrises, and sand dunes in state parks give you plenty of options for shooting.

This is a hands-on workshop. We will shoot in the early morning and early evening each day while the sunlight is soft and favorable. However, on bright sunny days we have the option to shoot at other times of the day to take advantage of shadows and highlights for B&W photography. Between shootings we will have classroom instruction and review of the images shot during the morning session and the previous evening. You will have free time between field and classroom sessions. We will use the latest version of PhotoShop to edit some of your images in class for immediate We use Epson printers to print images.

The workshop will take place at a local resort on the shore of Lake Michigan. After the morning and evening shoots we will have meals at some of Bill's favorite local restaurants. You are responsible for transportation to Door County and for meals and hotel costs. Download link for additional workshop details, such as how to get to Door County, what photography gear to bring, etc. We recommend that you use digital cameras during the workshop. If you use a film camera, you will not receive the full benefits of the workshop, primarily review of images shot.
